Warren’s standalone sequel to Heart of Stone soars with fun, witty characters and nonstop action. Sassy professional art restorer Felicity “Fil” Shaltis thinks she’s guilty of “felony stupidity” when she clandestinely enters a dark abbey to figure out why a gargoyle sculpture tantalizes her, but she’s in for more trouble than she expected. A menacing creature sent by the highest-ranking priest of the Darkness shoots bolts of malevolent energy her way—but the gargoyle turns into a towering, furious warrior and leaps to protect her. After Fil escapes, she learns that her protector is Spar, a Guardian created to protect humanity from the Darkness. They exchange sarcastic taunts and heated embraces as they try to break the bond of the demon’s mark. Fueled by stubbornness and impatience, Fil insists on confronting one deadly peril after another, leaving Spar working overtime to protect his independent-minded mate. Wise, calming Wynn, an herbalist and healer, is a wonderful counterpart to the high-powered couple, and readers will look forward to reading more of her story in a future installment.
